Injectable Fillers

Looking for non-surgical advancements in facial rejuvenation? Well, look no further. As we grow older, more signs of aging become more evident on our faces. This is recognizable as wrinkles and folds, or nasolabial folds. While there are numerous injectable fillers on the market today, many of them have their drawbacks including allergic reactions and relatively short life spans. Restylane is a safe and natural cosmetic filler that is immune to these drawbacks given its unique chemical composition.

How does Restylane® work?

Restylane® adds volume to the skin. The surgeon injects small amounts of Restylane® directly into the skin and it lifts up the wrinkle or gives more volume to the lips. Wrinkles can be raised to the level of the surrounding skin and the contours of the lips can be enhanced to the desired level.

Where can you use Restylane®?

The most common areas are the glabellar lines (between the eyebrows), the nasolabial folds (from the wing of the nose to the angle of the mouth) and the lips, but other sites can also be treated.

How is the treatment performed?

Treatment with Restylane® is a very easy and quick procedure. Since no pre-test is required, the treatment can be carried out immediately and takes about 30 minutes. Small amounts of Restylane® are injected with a very fine needle just under the skin to create the desired degree of volume. The results are instant.

Is the treatment painful?

This is very individual depending on how sensitive to pain you are. Most people report that the injections are virtually painless, and normally no anaesthesia is needed for the treatment of wrinkles and folds. Lip treatments can be quite uncomfortable and therefore a dental anaesthetic is normally used. As dentists, we are expert at making these injections virtually painless, using ice packs and topical anaesthetic creams to make the treatment as comfortable as possible.

How long will the effects last?

The results are instant, and will last from 6 to 12 months depending on the individual response. It depends on many factors, such as the structure of the skin, lifestyle and age as well as on the degree of perfection demanded by the individual.  Since the hyaluronic acid in Restylane® is a substance very similar to that in your own skin, the same ongoing processes (such as ageing) that change the structure of your skin will also alter the implant. Eventually the implant totally disappears from the body leaving no residue.

Most people choose to have a new treatment within a year after treatment of wrinkles and folds, and within six months after a lip treatment .

Is the Treatment Safe?

Restylane® is very safe because the hyaluronic acid is not made from animals so there is no risk of passing diseases or causing allergic reactions. Therefore, no pre-test is necessary. Homeopathic remedies are prescribed to minimise any swelling or redness immediately after treatment. As the effect fades away, the material disappears without a trace.

Will I be left with a ‘trout pout’?

The huge, grossly distorted lips seen in the media (commonly known as the trout pout look) are difficult to achieve with Restylane®, as large volumes of the product would be required. The aim of the treatment is to enhance the shape and volume of the lips. Over-treatment is very rare as you are able to see the results instantly, giving you full control over the desired effect.
